At this moment, this is available only in hardcover format.

This is actually a pack containing, as you might already figured out, two books, CCENT / CCNA ICND1 100-101 Official Cert Guide and CCNA Routing and Switching ICND2 200-101 Official Cert Guide.

If you read any book by Wendell Odom, then you will not be surprised by the clarity and express ways of explaining things. Probably no other Cisco books author is doing this better.

Both books are closely following the exam blueprint for the new exams, ICND1 100-101 and ICND2 200-101. So by using these books, you will be sure that during the exam you will not see any question regarding a topic that you never read about in these two books.

The new topics added since the previous exam blueprint, such as IPSEC, managing IOS files, managing IOS licensing, IPv6 protocols and static routes, Netflow, FHRP are all there in these two books.

The content of the books is organized like the one from previous series of the same exam ICND1 and ICND2.

Each chapter starts with a ‘Do I Know This Already?’ section, then you have the ‘Foundation Topics’ section. Each ‘Foundation Topics’ has several key elements that you are advised to understand and remember. At the end of each chapter you have a list with all of them and the page where you can find them.

You have troubleshooting sections as in your life as a networking engineer you will be doing this a lot, not only configuring networking devices from scratch. You will need to fix what others broke.

Regarding the DVD that comes with the book, there is really useful information there.

You have several appendixes that weren’t put in the books to not make it even heavier than it already is.

The version of the network simulators, called Lite, is a stripped down version of the two network simulators created by the same author. You will get few labs for ICND1 and ICND2. This is far less than what you are getting with a full version of the simulators, but also the price paid for the pack is considerably lower than the one that has full network simulators. So, that’s the price not paid.

Also, the DVD comes with Pearson IT Certification Practice Test software which you can use to load different sets of questions which mimic the questions you will get during the exam. As each book comes with its own DVD, each book contains an activation code for the particular exam the book covers.

I found on the DVD few videos where you can watch how a router is configured, or how subnetting is done or a small troubleshooting session.

If you are starting your career in networking and you would like to enter the Cisco certification world, then this is the pack you should buy and study from.

The fact that along with the two books you get the Lite version of the network simulators, it gives you the possibility to experiment on your own the features discussed throughout the books.

The amount of information and the quality of the information from these two books along with the information found on the DVD will provide you a solid ground for a long and successful carrier in networking.
